The hotel's proximity to the city center. The woman in charge of housekeeping is a perfectionist who demands the same from her staff. The bellman at the front door provided excellent , friendly service.
The old man working behind the front desk and serving as "concierge" is surly (rude), completely unhelpful, argumentative: you have to experience this to believe it. He really needs to retire. The young receptionist was pleasant but provided no service and obviously has not been well-trained. Believe me,among the 6 hotels we stayed in in Spain, the Reconquista experience was not even close! Please send these employees for a 2 night stay at a quality hotel so they will what good service means. (Except for the old guy who should retire)

The building is still splendid, although we don't like what Melia has done to it.
Reconquista was totally disappointing; rooms were small and too crowded with furniture for the price; outrageously expensive and seems to cater primarily to the business traveler on a big expense account. Room service is expensive and extremely inadequate; twice we ordered popcorn for the child in our group along with snacks and the popcorn war burnt both times and we had to throw it away. We have stayed there on other trips, but now, I would never recommend that anyone pay $300+ for a room at this hotel. One of the worse experiences in Spain. Sorry, but they earned this review and I agree with other reviewers, that they should do something with the gorgeous exterior courtyard. Worst, they have added drab patio furniture and ugly brown dividers upstairs for the terribly expensive "terrace" rooms! The space is so ugly, we could not wait to get out of our rooms. There is no outdoor landscaping or anything to make the outdoor spaces beautiful. We expected to give our grandchild a "grand experience" and we were very disappointed. I don't know what Melia is thinking, but I would think twice about staying at any of their other "high end" hotels based on our experience at Hotel Reconquista.
